Ministry of Justice is the sole organ empowered under the Ministerial Responsibilities Notice of 1990 amongst others to prepare legislative and other legal documents of Government, in Court cases, arbitration and all other disputes between government and the citizens, between Communities or Groups.

 

It has the responsibilities of defending the government and protecting, the interest of the citizens and territorial integrity of the State.

 

The Ministry of Justice is the defender of Government Ministries, Parastatals and extra Ministerial Departments.

 

Ministry of Justice is also known as the upholder of the rule of Law, ensure of equity for all citizens, guarantor of free access of Law.

 

This Ministry facilitates the smooth dispensation of Justice in the State.

 

It is the responsibility of this Ministry to legally defend the Local and International boundaries of the State and mediate on the Intercommunal disputes within the framework of the Law, support the Legal Aids Programme by providing a Law Centre to give free legal advice to the under-privileged in the  Society.
